Over the last 30 years Pitchandikulam has been working with local communities in Auroville and the bioregion to identify suitable sites for plantation and reforestation of the endangered Tropical Dry Evergreen Forest.
Plantation sites for 2006 include 100 acres of sand dune plantings at Moogiyur coastal land, collaboration with the Forest Department in planting TDEF species amongst existing Casuarina plots on the seashore, establishment of a TDEF forest and park on a l12 acre landfill site in Chennai and the plantation around a newly established water collection pond of indigenous medicinal plants at Kellambakkam.
