Organic Farming

Organic Farming is becoming a large part of PBRC's activities in the region. As people become aware of both the short and long-term environmental, social and monetary benefits that organic agriculture can provide, more farmers in the region are gradually implementing these practices in their farming.

Through workshops at the NEEC Field and exposure trips to the NEEC Forest  as well as training and awareness sessions during various outreach activities, farmers, womens' self help groups, students and the general community are learning how to employ different organic methodologies.

Local farmers are being trained in organic farming and vegetable gardening using vermi-compost, effective micro-organisms (EM), panchekavya, amrut pani, SRI (System of Rice Intensification) and natural insect control methods. As part of this programme organic soil additions are introduced as a substitute for chemical based pesticides and fertilizer.
