A demonstration nursery, along with a collection of herbs and other species of medicinal plants, is located next to the Bio Resource Centre. This provides an important botanical and seed resource, and supplies medicinal plants for teaching, health camp and dispensary purposes. The nursery employs 7 local workers and currently has a store of 40,000 seedlings, both TDEF and medicinal herbal plants, which are sold locally and used in the preparation of herbal medicines for health camps. Exhibition pots labelled with the botanical and Tamil names of the plants are maintained for use in exhibitions at schools and other programs.
Many visitors and groups enjoy the opportunity to wander through the nursery and herb gardens and explore the pathways winding through the forest. Open seated areas provide space for medicinal herbal preparation workshops and other group activities or meetings. Colourful, interpretive stone signs placed throughout the area display information on elements of the ecosystem and explain the medicinal uses of individual species.
